A friend of mine recently subscribed to Backstage and started working as an extra or background actor. Her first paid gig was as a restaurant patron in feature film and she asked me for advice on what to wear. Wardrobe needed a few outfit options in “spring casual”.
I understood her dilemma. After all, in New York, we wear black year-round – even in spring. But for everywhere else, spring casual usually means neutrals in earthy tones like white, ivory, taupe or soft and muted pastels in pink, blue, green. Sweaters or blazers in navy or light grey layered over crisp white basics is also a classic wardrobe outfit for spring.
It is important bring a few outfit options for the wardrobe assistant to choose from. You should also factor in whether the shoot is in the night or day.
Khaki cotton blazer, white tee, scarf, jeans, brown mid length boots
Printed tunic top, stretch cotton pants or capris, flats.
Light grey drape neck sweater, stretch cotton pants or capris, flats
Classic Jackie-O cardi, printed dress.
