Heading to college this fall? Of all the things on your dorm checklist, finding bedding that is comfortable, durable and stylish should be at the top of your list. After all, given the shoe-box dimensions of most dorm rooms, your bed will be where you spend most of your time whether it be socializing, studying, or sleeping (if lucky).
Unfortunately, colleges and universities defined a different mattress size just for their on-campus dorms – the Twin Extra Long, so quality dorm bedding options are pretty limited. I have started a running list of my favorites here and will add to them as more are available. Since Twin XL bedding is a college dorm phenomenon, you save money by investing in a quality comforter set in classic / versatile design that you can love throughout your four years (or less, if you move off campus) and then extending the look with less costly bedding basics / sheet sets. Most Twin XL comforter sets include a comforter and one standard pillowcase. Most Twin XL bed sheet sets include flat sheet, fitted sheet, and one standard pillowcase.
Preppy prints in blue-based stripes and plaids are always college dorm classics. They are “safe” choices – in they appeal to both genders and can be easily neutralized with solid white or blue bed sheets to create a calm study and sleep sanctuary.
For a refined look, pair with Tommy Hilfiger Flag Twin Extra Long Sheet Set
The Tommy Hilfiger Flag Twin Extra Long Sheet Set goes great here too.
For something more girly but grownup, there are limited options in the Twin Extra Long category. I recommend looking for prints in warm neutral tones that have a strong female point of view and can easily be pumped up with pops of color as desired. I have a weakness for deep blues and warm greys and seaside-inspired prints because they look great with accents of pink.
Pairs well with either PBTeen Suite Organic Sheet Set (in Royal Navy) or PBteen Classic Organic Sheet Set (in White or Navy).
Well, this is what I have so far. See any other worthy options out there?
